Back Ground Information

The Accra Academy Geography Club (A.A.G.C), one of the newly established clubs in Accra Academy was formed when some notable students of the school were dared by the head of The Geography Department to establish the club. Looking at the many benefits that would be realised if the club is established, these founding members took it upon themselves to make the this drean a reality. To that effect, the G-3 as they are popularly called namely Daniel Ofosu, Daniel Apraku and Joseph Korley assembled their thouths and with dedication, commitment, determination amidst tools and sacrifice gave birth to the A.A.G.C. Through their tireless effort the G-3 and the head of The Geography Department, a constitution was drafted for the club which after a referrendum was accepted and approved. After vetting and voting, a nine-member executive was put in place to be at the hen of affairs. The A.A.G.C. was born and inaugrated with members increasing members day in day out.

Aims

Our aims can be outlined as follows :-)

  • To promote geography education in the school and the country as a whole.
  • To dialate on job opportunities associated with geography.
  • To compliment the efforts of the Geog department outside the classroom by organising lectures.
  • To facilitate the completion of the sullabus on time
  • To co-ordinate ideas with other Geography Club existing schools
  • Organise quiz among Geog Club Existing in other schools
  • To visit sited of geographical interest.
  • To aid in the Afforestation proccess.

Achievements

Our achievements so far can be outlined as follows :-)

  • The excelling geography students are members of the club
  • An awareness has been created among geography students about prospective and well paid jobs the'll occupy if they should continue in the discipline.
  • The A.A.G.C. has been organising lecture sessions at every meeting and this has exposed members to many new things.
  • This lecture sessions have been able to cover topics which are not covered in class, therby facilitating the completion of the syllabus.
  • Geog is currently a branch of science beign studied nationwide.
  • The Club has relations with practically eight geog clubs existing in other schools like Accra Girls, Wessley Grammah, Osu Presec , Nungua Presec and others.
  • In the Clubs half year existence, it has visited the kakum national park, the willi waterfalls with akosombo in the pipeline.
  • Last year the club orgarnised a tree planting exercise along the streets of the school.
  • Successive seminars have been held and have been explaining the study of geography.
